Col de Vars – 2,108m

Location: D902 Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye to Guillestre (18 miles)

Coordinates: 44.538878,6.702834

Ridden: 2008, 2013 & 2018

The D902 connects Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye with Guillestre and takes you from the Ubaye valley to the Queyras valley via this col. Nice to ride from either side, the Col de Vars has undergone significant resurfacing since we first rode it in 2008. The northern ramp from Guillestre has a particularly good section for those with knee down capability.

The pass is usually open from May to October, but it can be closed at anytime when not cleared of snow. There are plenty of places to stop at or around the top for something to eat or just a coffee. About two-thirds of the way up from Guillestre is the Vars ski resort, and further on towards Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye is the Refuge Napoleon and cafe Igloo.
