The Col du Lautaret is located on the D1091, the main road that links Grenoble to the west with Briancon to the east. It’s barely recognisable as a col and sits on the junction at the foot of the Col du Galibier. Being a main route for travel between France and Italy it remains open virtually all year round although this also means it tends to be quite busy. On a bike this won’t delay you for very long though as the road is wide and very well surfaced.
