Col du Lautaret – 2,058m

 

Route: D1091 & D902 Briancon to Col du Galibier - 22 miles

The D1091 is the main road linking Briancon with Bourg d’Oisans and Grenoble. We only rode the eastern ramp up to the base of the Galibier. You wouldn’t really recognise this as a Col as it’s just a fast well surfaced main A-road which gradually climbs up to the top of the Col where you can turn right onto the Col du Galibier. There’s quite a lot of traffic on this road but on a bike it won’t delay you very much. As this is a main route for travel between France and Italy, the Col is kept open all year round.
