Route: Route 19 Andermatt to Gletsch (19 miles)
The Furka connects Andermatt with Gletsch at the foot of the Grimsel Pass. It was used as a location in the James Bond film Goldfinger. The western ramp is a little over 10 miles long and climbs 1,063m at an average grade of 6.4%. This ramp is wide and well surfaced and takes you past the Rhone Glacier – the source of the River Rhone – where you can even enter an ice tunnel and go into the glacier itself. The eastern ramp from Andermatt is tighter and steeper but while in 2006 the road wasn’t very well surfaced, there have been significant improvements made since then, both to the surface and the engineering of some of the bends. Much improved and very enjoyable to ride.
